Code of Conduct
The Burlington Pickleball Association is committed to providing an environment that reflects the association’s core values of respect, fairness, integrity, honesty, and safety.
1. Policy Statement
Burlington Pickleball Association members shall conduct themselves with respect for individuals while participating in Pickleball activities.
2. Context
Burlington Pickleball Association is committed to its purpose of promoting the game of Pickleball within the City of Burlington by working to ensure a safe and positive environment within the City at all play locations by advising individuals there is an expectation, at all times, of appropriate behavior and potential consequences for violating the Code of Conduct.
3. Application
The Code of Conduct applies to all members participating in Pickleball events.
4. Roles/Responsibilities - Individuals
People participating in Pickleball events in Burlington have a responsibility to:
a. maintain and enhance the dignity and self-esteem of fellow Pickleball players by:
i. demonstrating respect for every person regardless of physical characteristics, athletic ability, age, ancestors, colour, race, citizenship, ethnic origin, creed, disability, family, economic or marital status, gender identity or expression, or sexual orientation.
ii. focusing comments or criticism appropriately and avoiding public criticism.
iii. consistently demonstrating the spirit of sportsmanship, leadership and ethical conduct.
iv. acting, when appropriate, to correct or prevent practices that are discriminatory.
v. always treating everyone fairly.
vi. adhering to the rules of Pickleball and the spirit of those rules.
vii. adhering to the court-sharing procedures at each site of play.
b. refraining from:
i. verbally or physically abusing anyone.
ii. any form of harassment.
iii. use of profane, insulting, or offensive language.
c. respecting the property of others and not causing willful damage.
d. promoting the sport of Pickleball in the most constructive and positive manner possible.
e. complying with Burlington Pickleball Association bylaws, policies, procedures and rules and regulations.
f. conducting themselves in a manner that reflects the highest standard of behaviour arising within the business, activities or events of Burlington Pickleball Association.
5. Implementation
a. The Board of Burlington Pickleball Association is responsible for communicating the Code of Conduct to all members of the Association.
b. All members of Burlington Pickleball Association are to familiarize themselves with and abide by the Code of Conduct.
c. The Board may, at its discretion, alter this document to ensure it remains current in protecting the rights of the Association’s members.
6. Results
a. Everyone confirms that they feel respected and safe while participating in Burlington Pickleball Association activities.
b. All participants in Burlington Pickleball Association activities, programs and events are familiar with and abide by their responsibilities under the Code of Conduct.
c. Timely actions are taken to respond to infractions of the Code of Conduct.
